What economic history does the next UK government need to know?
Why understanding economic history can be the key to successful government policymaking
On Friday 22nd March at 5pm, at McHughs Bar and Restaurant, 29-31 Queen’s Square, Belfast, CEPH invites you to join several of Ireland’s finest economic historians for a roundtable discussion as they look at past decisions and how they can be used to inform the future. There are lessons that can be learned across history, from pandemic responses to great recessions. Understanding the consequences of past policy choices is crucial for any new Chancellor to succeed.
Part of the Imagine Festival of Ideals & Politics, the event will feature short, 10-minute presentations by top economic historians, discussing several past case studies and exploring the concept of government decision making and the role of the Chancellor of the Exchequer in this process. This will be chaired by a stand-up comedian, and the conversation will be kept light and interesting for all audiences. It will then have a general discussion and Q&A session for attendees.
Join members of CEPH as they walk through some important lessons from British and world history and explain how economic history can not only be interesting, but also nation-saving!
