CEPH is delighted to present “Can You Run Ireland”, our pioneering economic history workshop designed for Transition Year and 5th Year students who have an interest in studying economics.

Designed for groups of 18-30 students, it places them in the shoes of the Irish governments between 1922 and the present day, and challenges them to see if they can do a better job of running Ireland than the government did. An easy task? It’s up to you to find out!

Based on real historical data, and developed in association with some of Ireland’s top economic historians, this 5-star workshop has proven extremely popular, and we’re excited to roll it out to as many schools as possible.

We are also offering a half-day experience where groups come to Trinity College Dublin and get a tour of the campus, insight into what it is like to study economics at university level, and an extended version of the ‘Can You Run Ireland’ workshop.*

This workshop is completely free, as it is funded by the Higher Education Authority of Ireland’s North-South Research Programme.

Some feedback from the schools we’ve worked with:

This was an extremely engaging workshop which centered around student led learning and problem solving. Andrew and Míde facilitated the workshop excellently, consistently giving the students enlightening information about the Irish Economy in the past and enabling them to think critically about government decision making. CBS Monkstown, Dublin

Really enjoyed seeing the students actively involved. They were very engaged with the whole process of budgeting. The timing for us was perfect as it was just after Budget 2025 was announced and we were in the middle of studying fiscal policy. Andrew and Julia were very good with the students. They let them take the lead in the decision making and their easy going demeanour worked very well with the students. One of our students said that it was the best workshop that he has attended in school. Mungret College, Limerick

The facilitators of the workshop were very engaging, energetic and fun. The students enjoyed the workshop very much and as a teacher it was very good to see their economics knowledge applied to real world scenarios. I would love to be able to use this workshop in my own classroom as well. The tour of the college was also a nice addition, some students are now seriously considering applying to Trinity. Davis College, Cork
