The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) advises the Minister for Education and Youth on curriculum and assessment for early childhood education, for primary and post-primary schools. As part of the broader redevelopment of senior cycle, it is envisaged that a revised specification for Leaving Certificate Economics will be introduced in schools from September 2028.
As part of this revision, there is a proposed increase in the percentage weighting of Additional Assessment Components from 20% to 40%. On 1 October, a public consultation was opened on the proposed changes, supported by a Background Paper and Brief. As an organisation with considerable experience interacting with Irish secondary schools, CEPH has created a response identifying issues with the proposed changes and our advice as to how best to improve them.
